About Start To Explore

Helping women rediscover confidence, freedom, and new beginnings through solo travel.

The Story Behind Start To Explore

Hi, I'm Zsuzsanna, a solo traveler and the creator of Start To Explore.

For a long time, I did what many women do. Between work, responsibilities, routines, and family commitments, there was always something that seemed more important than my own plans.

Travel was one of those things I kept postponing.

Not because I didn’t want it badly enough. There was always a practical reason to wait a little longer. A busier season at work. Other priorities. A better time that never quite arrived.

Eventually, I realized I wasn’t waiting for the right moment anymore. I had simply gotten used to putting myself last.

When I finally started taking solo trips, I discovered that travel wasn’t really the point.

The point was proving to myself that I could still do something that was entirely my own.

Those first trips weren’t always easy. I got lost more than once, made plenty of mistakes, and occasionally wondered what I was doing. But every journey taught me something I couldn’t have learned by staying home.

I became more comfortable making decisions on my own. I learned to trust myself more, and I stopped talking myself out of experiences that once felt intimidating.

That’s how Start To Explore began.

I created this space for women who know there’s something they still want to do, even if they haven’t quite figured out what that looks like yet.

If that sounds familiar, I’m glad you’re here.

The Story Behind The Book

When I was planning my first solo trips, I spent hours searching for advice.

There was no shortage of information. I could find packing lists, destination guides, and endless travel tips.

What I couldn’t find was someone talking honestly about the doubts that often come before a first solo trip.

Not the practical questions.

The personal ones.

The fear of making a mistake.

The feeling that maybe you’re not ready yet.

The suspicion that other women seem to have it all figured out while you’re still trying to find the courage to begin.

Those were the questions I was trying to answer when I wrote The Woman You Meet When You Travel Alone.

I didn’t write it to convince anyone to quit their job, sell everything they own, or fly across the world.

And I certainly didn’t write it because I believe travel magically solves life’s problems.

I wrote it for women who feel there must be more waiting for them than the routine they’ve settled into, but aren’t quite sure where to start.

The book combines practical advice, personal experiences, and honest conversations about the fears that stop so many women from taking that first trip.

Because confidence rarely comes first.

More often, confidence shows up after you’ve already decided to go.

A Few Things About Me

Hi, I’m Zsuzsanna.

I’ve visited 26 countries and traveled solo across Europe, Asia, and Africa. I created Start To Explore to help women feel more confident about exploring the world on their own.

Every article, photo, and travel story on this site comes from my personal experience.

By day, I work as an economist and accountant, so keeping track of every euro, dollar, and dirham on a trip is not really optional for me, it is just how I already think. That background is exactly why the money side of travel gets so much space on this blog: real numbers and real receipts, not vague advice.

Thanks for stopping by.

I hope you’ll find something here that reminds you it’s never too late to start exploring.
